Pause the copy, wait for disk activity to stop, then put the laptop to sleep so I can carry it to work. I've done that before plenty of times on my laptop without problem. I had a problem with version 3.x crashing in the middle of copying a large number of files (like 1 TB). I also enable test after copy to confirm a clean copy, but that doubles transfer time. The total time of the transfer will depend on what sort of mix of files you have. HDDs will vary in speed up to 100-250 MB/s for sequential data, and as slow as 0.5 MB/s for very small files.
